Iowa Statewide Interoperability Coordinator (SWIC) Position

The SWIC (Statewide Interoperability Coordinator) is the central point for the State of Iowa’s Interoperability efforts. The SWIC in Iowa is responsible for the Statewide Communication Interoperability Plan (SCIP) through coordination and collaboration with the emergency responses community.  The SWIC dedicates considerable time towards educating the public safety community on the SCIP.  The SWIC works closely with the ISICSB (Iowa Statewide Interoperability Communications System Board) to enhance statewide governance structures.  The SWIC plays a important role in furthering Interoperability across all disciplines of emergency responders and is heavily involved in the planning aspect of the new “ISICS”  (Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System) in the State currently being constructed .  The SWIC oversees interoperability websites, manages the development and content of interoperability newsletters, works with legislators and the Governor’s Office on Interoperability Communications legislative issues.  Ultimately the SWIC in Iowa role is one of program management and managing people in the States Interoperability efforts.
